Removing & restoring hyperlink capability and beeping

Hello,

My phone has had the hyperlinking capability removed because of the line that reads:

ro.da1.enable=true

From what I've been reading, I'll need to update this line to

ro.da1.enable=false

Then add this line below:

ro.da1.method=false

My concerns are:
1) Before I go through with this, please let me know if this is a legit change.
2) As future updates are rolled out by AT&T, my carrier, will I need to continuously check to see if this line is reverted?
3) Completely unrelated question: When my battery goes low, the phone always beeps when the battery level falls to 15%, 10%, then 5%. I there any way to prevent this beeping sound without putting the whole phone into vibrate?

It is legit I did it and can't be happier. Future updates could over right the file, but you already know how to change back.
