How do i text back a missed a call?

So i recieved a call from a random number. Im more comfortable texting then talking on the phone. But no matter what i press, im not getting the option to text the missed call. I would either have to add a random number as a contact to be able to text them, or i would have to get a pen and paper and write down the number so i could text the number back. I know there has to be a way to set it up so i can text back a missed call instead of calling it back, i mean this is one of the newest smart phones. So can someone walk me through how to change that setting please>

Where are you trying to text them from - the dialer/call log?

In the call log, just long press the number, then you'll see the option to send a message
