Please help me root my htc u ultra

I can't figure out how your manually root my HTC u ultra. I can't figure out how to get what's called fastboot to work.
I can't figure out how to unlock bootloader. When I go to read up on this there's not enough details on how to start this process from the beginning. Please someone help me.

Use this page to unlock the bootloader. (Upper right - the "Unlock the Bootloader" icon.)

Then follow the instructions on this page to install TWRP. Do not follow their instructions to root.

Then use TWRP to install Magiskfrom this page. You want both the latest version of Magisk (it's 18.0 at the moment) and the Magisk Manager (version 6.1.0). You don't need the uninstaller.

Magisk allows you to hide root from any apps that won't run in a rooted phone (like some banking apps, snapchat, etc.)
