I've had my HTC U11 Smartphone running Android 8.0 for a little over a year now, and one of the things that I've enjoyed most about it was its incredible battery performance. It has a rapid charging system via a USB Type-C connector, and after a full charge and normal use, I ALWAYS get at least two days use out of my battery, and that is with letting it drop to 18% to 15% before I stick it back on charge again. I also always keep my phone on Energy Saver mode.

Well, just up until about four days ago, I've noticed an unusual drop in battery performance, and my battery performance has literally dropped in half, and this also very noticeable even on standby when my phone is not in use. When I go to sleep, even with the phone on Energy Saver, it drains very quickly, and probably loses about 10% or even a little more by the time I wake up again. Before, if I lost 3 to 4% during sleep, that was a lot.

I've done many troubleshooting steps myself, and of course the first obvious one was to see any apps draining at an unusual rate in the battery statistics section of settings. I've even disabled apps which I've recently installed to see if that was the issue. However, when you observe the battery statistics, at the top of the list is Mobile Network Standby followed by the Android System. Here is a screenshot that I just took of that:

I've also shut my phone off totally for several minutes and turned it back on again a few times since I've been having this issue to see that maybe something would clear itself out/reset any glitches. With these Android phones over the years, I've learned to do that when things start acting up all of a sudden, and it usually helps clear the issue, but with this it does not. I'm starting to think that maybe the battery has just hit its optimum lifespan, but normally you notice a gradual decline once that starts happening, not so suddenly like this.

Any input/help would be greatly appreciated.

The answer is in the question.

You should be charging it at 40% - 35% in an emergency (of the type where you need the phone to call 911). Charge to 80%, recharge when it drops to 40%, for the best battery life. After a year of 15%, you may need a new battery.

(And there's no need to post twice. We can see them wherever they're posted.)

I have the exact same issue even if I have been charging the phone from 30 to 80% from the day i got it. I got it a little over half a year ago. I can just see the battery percentage draining. Never happened before.

Sorry, I've never had a problem with any other battery by charging it when it gets to 15 - 18%, and I posted it twice because I wanted to do it that way, but thanks.

But, you see, your other post has suggestions that the folks in this post aren't aware of and sometimes suggestions for resolution can play off each other. That's why we suggest only posting in one place.

Ok, but I still prefer doing it this way. Thank you anyway.

And I KNOW where my other post is, you don't have to give me a link to it. Wow lol.

Ok, but let people find it on their own, that's why I posted it twice. I don't need the extra help, but thanks anyway.

maybe you don't need the help but others do. Hallux is just offering suggestions to make the group better. Just say thanks

No, I don't need his help, and I did say thanks to him if you read what I said in my reply, but thanks anyway.

Well the dupe is gone -- no reason for two threads on the same post .

Also lighten up -- people are here to help. Sure you don't have to take their suggestions if you don't want to but you literally asked for tips and such so people are only doing what is asked.

Like I said, whatever you say, you're a moderator, so I have to obey the rules which include not calling someone a 'tough guy', so I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings with that. Please forgive me.

Ah I see you are one of those. Ask for help but it wasn't to your exact liking so you resort to just being rude versus actually just letting them know that may not what you have been looking for.

Good luck finding your answers !
