    Hi everyone,

So I've narrowed my choices for my next phone between the LG V30+ and the Mate 10 Pro. Obviously, with the 4,000 mAh battery, I'm assuming battery life and standby time on the Mate 10 Pro is a non-issue, as is the screen legibility in direct sunlight. My other two concerns are the sound through the dongle with a pair of quality, high impedance earbuds ( I'm considering the V30+ for the quad DAC) and the software.

I've seen a lot of people down EMUI, due to it's supposed "redundancy". My father has a Mate 9, so I have very little experience with EMUI, other than setting the phone up for him. Visually, it's an obvious copy of iOS, which I actually don't mind. In fact, I prefer the EMUI/ iOS folder icons, that allow you to view nine apps per folder. To me, it's a much cleaner look. But aside from that, what are the things you like and dislike about EMUI? Are your dislikes just little annoyances or deal breakers? How do you get around it?

I'm coming from a Nexus 6P, so I tried but I'm quite bored with stock, so I'm looking for a more feature-packed replacement again. I'd put the S9+ on my list of options, but Samsung's battery life apparently continues to suck, so that's a no go. What are your opinions? Should I go for the Mate 10 Pro, or the LG V30+, which apparently has similarly stellar battery life? Feedback is appreciated.

I keep hearing that EMUI doesn't support Smart Lock, which is a useful feature, and that notifications aren't great on it. I'd wanna go for it for the battery life, but a lot of people down it cause of the software.

Smart Lock is supported but only for Bluetooth devices. It works great for me having an AndroidWear smartwatch and always hooking up to Bluetooth in vehicles but some people like to have a Location like their home or on body to also unlock the phones like Samsung has.

Notifications work fine for me too with a little fine tuning but they seem to be frustration for a lot of people too

Found this a while back regarding the smart lock issue. I've never used Tasker, I use llama and macrodoid so don't know about it's reliability.

How does AW work with the Mate? Are notifications functioning properly? I'm just curious since the notifications on the lock screen aren't actionable on the Mate.

Notifications work perfectly and just the same as they always did on my previous phones so you won't notice any difference. The Lockscreen Notifications not being g actionable is a bit of a pain for sure

Has anyone got Android Auto to work with their Mate 10 Pro? I was looking into picking one up until I saw that Huawei has some serious issues with Android Auto.

I haven't noticed any issues with my Mate 9's Oreo with Android Auto but Mate 10 owners may have a different experience.

I’ve read online that it is basically useless. Not sure if there’s been an update to that. But I don’t want to buy one without knowing for sure.

I've been using Android Auto on the phone not connected to an Android Auto head unit and I've had zero issues with it. I drive most of the day for work and use it constantly on my Mate 10 Pro

    Hmmm. Weird.

I’d like to see if anyone has used something with an Android Auto head unit.

Ive been a fan of Huawei since I tried the Mate S a few years ago, with their great cameras and Audio... Even the P9 with its single speaker sounded good.. but never liked EMUIs dark miserable icon and skin colours, also I found in the past that EMUI had alot of stuff going on and seemed too top heavy..

But the new EMUI 8.0 is much better.. especially the Theme Store.. you can add adtractive coloured Icon and wallpaper packs to brighten and freshen it up..

I also like the old "Windows Phone" battery saver settings where you can turn Apps off from any Background or any activity completely,, that to me is one of its best features..

The camera UI is also really good .. I know its pretty much taken from the P9 & P10, but I like the amount of control you have over everything.. Also, the Music Player UI, especially its Landscape Juke Box effect..

But Ive gotta be honest, theres just something about it which I cant put my finger on, whether its ALL the options and settings buried under more settings... or whether it takes 2 or 3 pages to make changes that you can do on pure android very quickly.... Im just not sure, but there just seems to be some unnecesary steps and options..

It is very good, much better than it used to be.... but not quite perfect

I have the Mate 10 Pro US C567 and a Chevy with an AA head unit. AA works fine for Maps and calls. Google Music however does not work. Any other music service will work (XM Radio and Tunin are perfect) This appears to be an issue with Google Music. I found a thread on a Google forum that talked about it.

See that’s what I’m looking for. I have a Ford with a CarPlay or AA head unit. I’d like for it to work properly.

What did you end up buying? I have the Mate 9 running EMUI 8. It's beast!

I like alot of the features including the screen gestures (like knuckle double tap to a screen shot), built in screen recording (I think on a pixel u need a third party app), and all the features in the camera app, to name a few.

I love the nexus and pixel lines too but it your looking for a non Google android phone Huawei is the way to go IMO.

    1. Sound Quality. Much better than my previous phones..Note 8 and iPhone 8 plus
    2. Camera. As good as any phone I had.
    3. Easy to use in one hand.
    4. Navigation dock and gestures.
    5. Battery life. First Android phome which is at 30% when I go to sleep. All others would be at 5-10%.
    6. Themes and icons...though Samsung is way ahead on this.
    7. DARK Mode.

    Dislikes
    1. When connected to laptop to transfer files, the connectivity is lost after a short time while transferring the file.
    2. Notification shade not accesible in lock screen. Have to unlock to use flashlight.
    3. No face unlock or iris scanning. There are times when I need that.
    4. AOD doesn't support third party apps.

Overall, I like the phone. Great value at what I got it for ($525).

One of the other things I don't like is how the stock design doesn't mesh with material design. I actually like it but I feel at this that I have both ios and android in my hands. That I don't like.
