Wear OS not working on Mate10 pro

I purchased a Huawei Watch 2 to pair with my Mate 10 pro. The initial setup went fine. But within a day, I started getting the error message to update Google App. But the app is already up-to-date.

Tried clearing app data, uninstall, reinstall etc, but still the app doesn't work.

I tried with other Android phones and iPhone, but Wear OS works fine on those.

Anyone else faced this issue and was able to resolve it? The only thing left for me is to do a factory reset for the phone, but I don't want to go through the pain of setting up again.
