Why does Gallery require data connection?

When launching the stock photo gallery app, it complains that my data connection is off. Why does this app need a data connection in the first instance? I don't use Huawei cloud nor do I have it setup.

It's probably like Google photos which can do cellular data back up

I agree -- even though you have the Sync Gallery option turned off, the app itself is probably still looking for that permission in order to function.

Do you have Google sync enabled for pictures? (Gallery should really check for sync before requesting a connection.)

You mean in google photos? No, it's been disabled a while.
