Personally I would prefer a more efficient chip since the kirin 960 is plenty powerful

I have no doubt that it is efficient ... But good efficient is it in real life usage? That no one knows yet.

From what I was reading before, they made their chips more efficient with the Kirin 960. Only thing they need to step up is their GPU. It can handle anything you throw at it but its slacking against Adreno.

So the only improvement is the GPU?

They doubled the cores in 960 from 950. They used the latest Mali GPU as well but it's weaker than the Adreno in SD821

Mali is a whole isn't great, if they could incorporate Adreno instead... Still mate 10 performance gonna be great

The latest Mali can handle itself. But on really intense games, the frame per second isn't up to par with Adreno.

Which means Mali isn't great as Adreno, i hope they can fix it somehow

    Isn't adreno qualcomm proprietary technology?

Yes it is, which is why Mali need some aces and proper optimization, most games have better Adreno optimization.

Ah that makes sense that game developers would cater to adreno since most high end phones used them. I wonder if Huawei could work with some developers to help improve optimization with their chip

Adreno with Exynos or Kirin CPU could result in amazing results in all front unless Mali would step up the game and also why Huawei won't use more cores? they might need to lower the frequency as core number go higher, but i wonder if more lower MHZ cores would bring down power usage during heavy gaming sessions.

Also, i would like to see so kind of CPU frequency changer like Sammy got and more control over performance to balance it out with battery life, that could extend the amazing battery life even more.

I believe Huawei announced they'll be making their own GPU chips soon. we just gotta wait and see how that turns out.

When you say make their own gpu chips, are they going to use custom cores like qualcomm?

Dunno. Didn't read too much into it. Android Authority or Android Central had an article about it.

If it isn't custom cores or design then they are probably using a reference design

Getting a carrier like AT&T on board could make a big difference. Certified. Monthly payment plan. Name recognition.

    The 970 should be nice.

Loving Mate 9 battery and performance.

Just thought of sharing something, today I had a bit busy day at work and even more outside(went to see the new IT movie, which is great tbh), my Mate 9 was off charger around 00am previous night, and using the phone for 2.5hr music with external USB DAC, some navigation, gaming browsing whole day around 8.5hr SOT, the battery died at 11:30pm, 1d of heavy use with no charges, the USB DAC itself takes around 10% for each hour.

Those figures are more than impressive, never seen phone survive that long, the Mate 9 amaze me every time.
