As some of you might know (some) huawei phones suffer from background battery draining. You do have the built in options for disableing background activity for apps but that's too agressife because it will kill all background activity. Today I re-enabled my Whatsapp background activity (I had it on kill background activity) and I found something strange. Whenever there was no internet connection available WhatsApp would spam me with the same message saying "checking for new messages" I'll include a link to a screenrecording below. I lead me to believe that whatsapp was always refreshing as fast as it could (+100times/sec) and if every app does so instead of for example just refreshing once per 5 secons that could maybe lead to battery drain. I personally have no idea how this works and maybe this fast constant refreshing is normal but I've never seen that refreshspam before. I'll try to check this thread daily and I hope this is a fix to the battery drain problem.
