I've watched quite a few videos of the p20 pro. Despite rumours before the release, none of the videos I've seen appear to indicate that the p20 pro has an always on display. I'm trying to decide between the s9+ and the p20 pro but not having an always on display is a dealbreaker.

It does. BUT for the clock, date and battery level as well as stock app notifications like sms and music. 3rd party apps don't show notifications yet and only show on the notification led. Basically the same as Samsung had when it came out for the S7

    Thanks so much for that!

If it has a notification LED that's good. My current Windows phone doesn't.

It's a really hard decision as to which phone to purchase. Unfortunately the variation of the S9 here in New Zealand is using the Exynos chip and therefore the battery life is absolutely terrible according to all the reviews I've read (Qualcomm 845 battery life seems really good, but that's not what's sold here). If it wasn't for that I'd probably get the S9.

The P20 Pro looks really good in terms of battery life. Overall the camera looks good.

I'm used to being able to take 20 megapixel photos with my windows phone and the quality of some photos is far better than my wife gets out of the S8. So 40 megapixels is quite appealing. However the images I've seen from P20 Pro are over processed on portraits and seems to over sharpen compared with the S9.

    So pretty big dilemma really.

Appreciate your answer, it really helps narrow things down.

    Thanks,
    Stefan

Always on Display is a big deal for me too. I came from a long line of Windows Phones too with Glance so it's been a must have feature for me too. I think you'd be happy with either of the S9+ or P20 Pro. I had the S8, S8+ then the Note 8 but have the Huawei Mate 10 Pro just now with the same battery as the P20 Pro and it's an absolute beast.

ACtually it seems it wont show SMS notifications anymore. Huawei decided to move to Android Messages app and atleast for me its notifications don't show on the "always on display".

It's a shame that it hasn't evolved anything from the Mate 10 Pro. It has been requested since 10 Pro came out but still nothing :/

Yeah the aod is not very good at all.

Not sure what the led is like on the p20 but it is tiny on the mate and I can barely see it. It may be bigger and brighter on the p20 but if you plan on using the led in lieu of an aod make sure you check that out,

Still very tiny and hard to notice unless it's dark

I use an app called Glance Plus AOD on my mate 9 that works great.

I tried glance plus, pretty good but buggy enough to not quite work for me.

I did not like the random feature (which you need to avoid burn in) it switched too often and the brightness changed to the brightest setting briefly every time it did.

Also hit issues where the fps stopped working totally so I had to use my pin
