The point of pro mode is that you have the choice to up the iso if you need to speed up the shutter speed. Obviously a tripod gives you more options but it's not necessary.

I tend not to up the ISO (at 100 most of the time) and adjust the shutter speed to compensate with the low ISO when I'm using Pro for cleaner low light shots. Otherwise I will rather be using auto or Night mode. Therefore, I will need a tripod for such situations. Perhaps you have a different practise though.

Higher ISO is needed for moving subjects.

Higher ISO is needed for moving subjects.

That’s a broad statement that is not particularly true. Higher ISO is not hat freezes action (movement), a “fast” shutter speed does. The ISO will depend on a few factors, not the least of which is the amount of available light n

Higher ISO allows the use of faster shutter speeds.

But the broad statement “higher ISO is needed for moving subjects” in and of itself is not true. :p

Using a higher ISO presents another set of problems that can be hard to “fix”. A little motion blur is a photo can often be a good thing, conveying action to the viewer.
Generally one wants to use the lowest ISO (preferably the base ISO of the sensor, since raising it higher isn’t making the sensor more sensitive to light) possible for the best quality photo.
A higher ISO, besides not increasing the sensitivity of the sensor, increases the amount of noise (both luminance and chroma), decreases contrast, decreases color saturation, etc..

This one was taken in almost total darkness. I can't get over how many details the camera was able to catch that were impossible to see by the naked eye. This was taken using the Night Mode and literally the only things I could see was the lights on and the wall of the house on the left.

I would absolutely love one, but I can never justify upgrading after only 6 months.
