Why is google maps muted in car?

Hi I have a slight issue with my Huawei p20 pro,
When I am connected to head unit in car via Bluetooth, I cannot hear directions on Google maps? When I disconnect Bluetooth sound is fine. No I understand there are some Bluetooth settings I can adjust, when I look at the Bluetooth profiles settings the ones for call audio and media audio are greyed out? Are these the settings that I need to adjust, if so how is this done?
Also is there anyway for me to use the mirror link feature in my car? Unfortunately I only have apple play and mirror link NO ANDROID AUTO which is annoying

It sounds like the issue is not with your Huawei P20 Pro, but with your car.

What model and year is it? What head unit is installed?

It's actually my Van it's a 2017 Citroen Berlingo,
Since posting j have found that if I have the stereo set to Bluetooth as a source i.e. listening to music from phone via head unit then Google maps audio is fine, but if I am listening to radio then no Google maps audio??
