    Hi all,

In my opinion, the Huawei P20 Pro has been the perfect find for me. Bought it nearly one year ago, and really have no needs/wants (used to churn phones a couple times per year in search of perfection).

The inevitable happened--dropped and fractured the back glass--still usable. Front had already been chipped a little previously.

From a google search, a new OEM screen from US supplier is about $250 more or less, back glass/battery cover is weirdly less than $10.

I know there's the debate about the Mate 20 Pro vs. P30 Pro...those are gonna cost me in the $500 (128GB which I have now--no issues) to $900 range (512GB).

Is it worth fixing, or is one of those substantially better--or is there one on the horizon? Have to admit, the Trump ordeal has me a little worried because I really love this phone.

    Thanks!

The back may sell for only $10, but it's going to cost you a lot more to have the pieces of the old one taken off and the new one put on.

The reason for the discrepancy in the price between the back and the screen is that there's an awful lot more to the screen than a sheet of glass - there's the LED layer, the LCD layer, the touchscreen layer, all the wiring, etc.

Bur paying about $350 to have the front and back replaced, vs. $500 for a year newer phone with a 7nm chipset, doesn't sound very wise to me (assuming that you have to stick with Huawei - there are a few other Chinese phones that are just as good and around the same price).

Yeah logically it doesn't make sense doing a repair (front/back) unless you're real handy at doing it yourself. Just the fact you mentioned its had a drop (possibly more than one) could spell trouble for longevity down the road. I'd cut my losses and look at buying a newer Huawei Pro or something "other" that'd meet your needs.

Yeah--I called several local repair shops, and they were either lukewarm or non-plussed about doing the repairs with supplied parts, even though OEM. One guy quoted me about $350. So it looks like on to the next Huawei for me....!

    Thanks!

Thanks! That's what I'm finding. Just trying to decide between the P30 Pro (understanding that's between $700 and $1K ugh) and Mate 20 X...suggestions welcome.

Best to do a spec comparison on the two seeing which one checks the most boxes. Then it's just a matter of finding the right deal you can live with... If either will do then that'll make it all that more easier.

Another area of note. If support is of any concern then chances are the P30 Pro will receive for longer since it came out six months later than the Mate 20 X.

Replacing the back is pretty easy tho. you can do it with a hairdryer and guitar picks.
