So my stepdad wants a new Huawei now and im saying he should go for a P40 Pro like me but he thinks the P30 Pro 2020 version or New edition as some call it, is just as good.

Are the new Huaweis really much different than the old ones in terms of what they can do?

He clearly doesnt trust me enough!!

Good question, I never had the P30 Pro myself, but I did move from the P20 pro to the P40 pro recently. IMHO the P40 pro is simply on another level when it comes to hardware. The camera and screen are absolutely brilliant! Now from what I've seen P30 pro is not MUCH more different from the P20 pro (biggest changes were in-display FP scanner and UltraWide lens).

On a software level, obviously you having the P40 Pro know what's up. It depends how tech savvy he is and whether he is up for a bit of change, if he knows tech, then P40 Pro all the way. Also it depends whether he uses a lot of Google's ecosystem, then it might be easier to stay with P30 pro. Maybe you could spend some time with him and explain to him the differences.

    What's his typical daily usage?

In terms of hardware there's a VAST improvement on the screen quality on the new P40 pro and various camera improvements too. Also the new frosted glass on the back of the phone was a huge selling point to me.

I agree, the screen on the p40 Pro is gorgeous and the camera doesn't stop surprising me! It's a pleasure to use.

I went for the P40 Pro simply because the hardware was much superior

Absolutely, really nice stuff in there, including the new Kirin 990, good for gaming multi-tasking anything you throw at it. Also OP, is 5G a factor for your stepdad? Because the P40 series is 5g by default, might make a difference.
