Re: [GUIDE] Preparing your HTC Droid Incredible for the Gingerbre

Skaterboy,

First - Do all the steps in these two posts
http://forums.androidcentral.com/in...id-incredible-gingerbread-ota.html#post980671
http://forums.androidcentral.com/in...id-incredible-gingerbread-ota.html#post980676

Try the first method with the PB31IMG.zip

When you plug in your phone to the computer it should ask if you want to use USB or Disk mode That is the option you want to see the SD card as a drive on your computer.

This is only if you want to un-root and accept the OTA. (You will not be able to re-root after the OTA until someone figures out a new method.)

If you want to keep root - do nothing! Wait for a stock rooted OTA to be posted.

Hope this helps.

hey, stig, would it just be best for me to wait until the devs figure out a stock OTA rooted? or just go ahead and grab this update?

and could this mean cyanogenmod and miui could see HD recording?

Thanks a lot PvilleComp! I'm going to take the ota because when I was rooted I only took screenshots and never flashed any roms.

It may - it may not. To be safe I would highly recommend un-rooting, or wait a day or so for a rooted Stock to come out. As soon as we grab an OTA link I'll root the stock load and post it in the Forum.

A reminder to everyone - if you accept the OTA you will lose root and it may be quite a while before a new root method is found, if it ever is. If you want to keep root - Don't accept the OTA.

Yes.

I updated the OP for rooted users with the folowing Tip.

[TIP]To disable the OTA Notification Nag:
Use Root Explorer or another root compatible file explorer and rename /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip. to /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip.bak.
[/TIP]

Thank you.

Yes - you can stay S-OFF and still take the OTA as long as you are on the Stock ROM. When the EVO got their update S-OFF was not a factor, and the phones/software are very similar.

Re: [GUIDE] Preparing your HTC Droid Incredible for the Gingerbre

Thanks Stig.

I am rooted for 3 reasons:
Screen capture
Bloatware
Titanium Backup.

What would I gain from Gingerbread?
Not much I would imagine.
I don't use custom roms and use Go launcher so I don't care about sense.

Thoughts anyone?

For Rooted Users Who Do Not Want to Lose Root

[TIP]To disable the OTA Notification Nag:
Use Root Explorer or another root compatible file explorer and rename /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip. to /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip.bak.
[/TIP]

Do this AFTER the first notification?

There are a TON of back end improvements in GB in general, battery battery is just one reason as well as bunch of security fixes. MMS fixes are also supposed to be there as well.

Wait for the Rooted OTA. As soon as we get a URL, I'm going to try rooting it and post it in the Forum. I was able to root the leak so it should work. The only thing you would be missing is the updated Radio and that should also be out shortly after the URL gets captured. I would do the update, even though it means re-de-bloating (is that a word?) it should be worth it.

Do this AFTER the first notification?

From what I understand you can do this before and you won't get nagged.

Re: [GUIDE] Preparing your HTC Droid Incredible for the Gingerbre

so I should unroot tonight.....etc.
I never put custom roms on.
I just want bloatware and backup using titanium as an option.
And of course this gets announced after I buy Juice Defender.....

So basically I would have a backup of my device, using titanium that WOULD NOT be able to restore data after the device is rooted again?

I am a simple root guy....
