....for some anonymous guy to register here. Yeah.

Anyways, I've currently got an iPhone 4. Short story: 6 months ago I finally got the job I've been angling for - an IT specialist position with the government. I needed a phone that would integrate with their email system, plus do all the normal smartphone stuff.

Well, Windows phones....anyways, moving on. The only two Android phones @ the time were the Motorola FlipOut or KickBack or something or other; and the HTC Aria. An OK phone, but the Aria IS a small phone.

Then the Captivate went on sale for Xmas. I essentially forced my wife to get it (she had a Bold 9700) and hated smartphones...*UNTIL* she got the Captivate.

After playing with it for a while I realized that it easily did everything my iPhone 4 does, as well as more; plus it has much more granular control over stuff, and that's without sideloading/rooting the phone.

A buddy of mine has it, and needs the iPhone 4 for work. His phone is 7 weeks old; and I'll be getting 2 cases, a 16Gb card, and a ton of travel stuff with it in exchange for giving him the iPhone 4 and the case, plus the normal stuff it came with.

A fair deal, I think. :) Looking forward to participating here. Very fluent in *nix and most things IT.

Fairly sure I will; I won't lie and say that I hate iOS - very polished, seamlessly integrates with the systems I needed it to, does everything I wanted it to.

But control? I prefer more granular control over my phones. *shrug* You can't beat Android for that.

Trust me, I plan on it. I simply meant to point out that even stock, the control one has is better than on an iPhone. :)

But at the LEAST I'd be installing task managers, sideloading apps, tweaking, etc. I'm sure at some point I'll be flashing it - I did the same thing back when I had a Motorola Razr. :)

Congrats on the change. I don't hate iOS but on the other hand, I don't like iOS. Install task managers but do NOT have them on auto-kill. And you will see apps that keep reappearing, put them in the ignore list. Like Handcent (I use handcent instead of the native sms app), Alarm, My widgets, email, contacts, etc...I mainly use task killer for the poorly coded apps that doesn't close correctly.

You will love the Android and you will find out how much more you can do with a stock Android over iOS, Sure iOS might have more apps at the end of the week, how many times do you use them.

I have an iPod Touch that I used to use everyday since my blackberry sucked, I haven't touch that Touch in over a week since I got my DX.

+1 on what RHC said about task managers they are not really needed and we dont recomment them,, but if you must use one please read this article

Sorry...I figured stuff like this would go without saying when I said I wanted more control. :p Absolutely I'll be controlling it myself.

And I agree about the iOS apps - lots of apps is nice, but seriously, how many fart apps does one need access to?

Thats good, I have about a dozen or more apps on ignore. If your phone is starting to lag, that is one thing I do, kill off apps and it's usually the same apps that I kill out and phone is fine again. But sometimes a reboot works as well.

Exactly, 30 fart apps, 20 gun apps, 100 light apps and so on. I will say, they did do make a smooth OS.

I think the iPhone does look sexy but doesn't perform as well and at the end of the day, it's about how it performs and helps me get my work done.

Welcome SgtKung,

Good choice with switching to Android. I personally live in a divided family (iOS/Android) and both have their plusses and minuses. In the end though a good Android phone always wins :).

Thanks for dropping in and enjoy your stay.

Cheers mates, Maison
