For some reason, certain words are not are not being "learned" by SK.
Do i have it correct in assuming that when you type a short-hand word and then hit the completed/predicted word the system then "learns" that this is a word you generally use?

Does it matter if I have my spacebar completion mode set to complete vs. prediction, as related to the above?

No, or shouldn't matter. What exactly do you mean its not learning? Did you buy chance have it sync with text, Gmail or social media? Thus helps at lot.

    I do have it synced.

When I type words like "ur" in stead of youre or gnna instead of gonnna, it doesnt learn these words.
Instead it changes the short hand word to whatever it "thinks" I am tying to say.

I thouhgt that if you used the same words repeatedly, then it would learn these words and not change them to another word, when you type them.

Also, no matter how many times I use a profanity, it wont learn that either.

When you type those words press the word as it appears in one of the three prediction boxes. It should be the left-most option. This will save the word in your dictionary and should come back up in the future when you use the word in similar phrases. It could be an issue of the word not being saved in the dictionary and is not being recognized.

What issue could be causing it to not be save din the dictionary??

When you select the word it should be saved. If you use it in similar phrases it will surely come-up as a predicted text.

Its still not learning anything and its incredibly annoying.

I have two other questions for you:

    1) What is the difference between "complete the current word" and "always insert a prediction" and which setting should I have it on?
Isnt completing the current word a prediction of what that word is?

    2) Under Swiftkey Cloud-->Personalization there is a "learned from" box that says SMS. It says in ti "successfully learned 2 hours ago, tap to re-learn". What does that second part mean and do I have to periodically tap this box?

Here is some information I found digging through the Swiftkey website:

In SwiftKey, there are three available options with regards to how the spacebar functions.

◾‘Spacebar will always insert a space’ – This means that pressing the spacebar will not affect your predictions or what you are typing. It will simply function as a spacebar. Your words will not be corrected or completed unless you tap the prediction buttons.

◾‘Spacebar will complete the current word’ – Selecting this option means that pressing spacebar when typing a word will automatically enter the middle prediction. If you are not currently typing, then spacebar will simply enter a space, or a period if a space is already present (see ‘Quick “.”‘ in advanced settings to disable this). This mode is the default option for the ‘Precise’ typing style on smartphones.

◾‘Spacebar will always insert a prediction’ – Selecting this option means that pressing spacebar always enters the middle word prediction (plus one space), including next words. The option will never enter a space alone.

To change the function of your spacebar, go to SwiftKey's Settings -> Advanced -> Spacebar completion mode and choose the relevant option.

Regarding the second question, "successfully learned 2 hours ago, tap to re-learn" means Swiftkey was able to successfully learn from your text messaging. It's personalizing the keyboard prediction to the way you text, i.e. grammar, phrases, spelling, etc. If you frequently text you might want to tap re-learn after a few days/weeks so that it can further personalize the experience to how you text.

Hopefully this helps. Let me now if you have further questions.

    Thank you for this.

As for my second question (and your second asnwer), I had no idea the user was supposed to continuously re-tap this box.
Why would they just have it automatically and constantly learn? What is the purpose of making the user have to go into settings and re-tap this?
Seems to me to be a bit counter-intuitive.

That said, ITS STILL not learning anything.
It refuses to learn any profanity whatsover and, for some reason it will just not accept the word "ur". Granted this isnt a word but when I am texting, I use this short-hand-word very often.

    I just dont understand it.
I emailed the company but have yet to hear back.

I'm sure they can allow it to automatically relearn every few days or so. It must be a security/privacy issue, and create concerns with users.

Regarding the learning issue, hopefully you get a response back to address the issue. I can't think of anything else to help problem solve. Good luck!
