Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help?

I went to make a phone call the other day and noticed the Phone icon has disappeared and also Contacts.

I've tried many things after searching the web but not found a way to fix it yet.

I've looked under all apps and 'phone' is not there.
I can find it under settings, apps, select 'show system apps' - there are 3 entries for 'Phone' there but I can't do anything with them.

After trying lots of things I decided to factory reset the phone hoping this would fix it, but even that didn't resolve things, Phone and Contacts still missing. This completely baffled me.

I have installed the stock google contacts app which is working fine but can't find a phone or dialer app that isn't add free.
But really it's just bugging me why they disappeared. I'm wondering if a recent update caused the problem?

I really can't understand why a factory reset didn't fix it :(

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S7, Android version 8.0.0, Samsung experience version 9.0

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Another thing I've noticed, may or may not be relevant. If I swipe screen but don't unlock the phone and choose 'emergency call' the dial pad comes up ok.
It's like the 'phone' app exists but there is no icon for it anywhere?

Did you install a 3rd party launcher or theme ?
Go to settings in sear bar on top type phone , does it show up?

I did install a Samsung theme but that was months ago and don't use it now, just using the default theme.
Never tried a third party launcher.

Nope, if I search phone doesn't show up :(

Thanks for your suggestions.

Does your App Drawer have folders as well? If so, check in the Samsung folder.

Also, could it be listed as Dialer instead?

Just checked App Drawer, only folders I have are Google, Microsoft Apps and Samsung.
No Phone or Dialer app there either.
Also searched for Dialer and Phone, no app found :(

Thanks for your suggestions

If you never did it before its not straight forward, but you can learn if you like me to show you ?

Is there an article I can follow.

I'm guessing there is a risk that I could brick my phone but to be honest it's about time I upgraded anyway.

I do work in IT but don't know a whole lot about Android OS.
I could hopefully work through a step by step guide.

Thanks for your help.

No risk of bricking , your using stock firmware not custom . I can give you the guidelines , whats your model number and carrier?
