I am getting this message every one in a while, and I just got my new Galaxy Note II out of the box today... Any ideas of what could be the problem?

I could not find anything on the web on that, so I decided to write here.

Thanks in advance,

This message means that unhandled exception (aka error) happend, to user it can usally display with the raport but it only shows when app is from Google Play. In that case you can check developer way it by installing Android SDK, download offical phone driver (as you have Galaxy Nexus use Google driver that comes you can download and install with SDK menager,if you are OS X or Linux user you don't need to do that), turn on USB debugging in developer settings of your phone and and run DDMS:

Using DDMS | Android Developers

In bottom of the DDMS there a log viewer it should show all the logs that you phone is generating... including errors, it might be chaotic but you can filter it to show only errors, by adding filter (circled E icon). Now cause this to happen again with DDMS tun on and running and durning this it should show huge chank of errors on the log, on the top of this chank you should have something like this:

Code:
10-10 19:44:48.301: E/AndroidRuntime(1581): FATAL EXCEPTION: main
10-10 19:44:48.301: E/AndroidRuntime(1581): java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: length=12; index=-1

the 2nd line is the reason of exception and cause of close, sometimes it's very descriptive sometimes it only shows name of exception class depending what happend, it might hint you what is wrong, but it might be something code related as my example and it's a bug that developer needs to fix, then best thing you can do is to copy whole thing (the entire error block that show up when this happens) and send it to developer together with you phone specs ;]

But copy it here (Select the log and press ctrl+c), i might figure soothing out, you can also google exception class name and it should show you what it that means

I know this is nerdy way to solve problem, but as a someone who code on Android i think this best way to figure what happens and if it's bug or something with my phone and it's better then sitting and crying if you didnt find whats wrong on internet. Usually in such things happens to Google Play app you should have Raport button and ability to see raport and see what exception happened there and you can also send it to developer from there, so in such cases you don't need to play with DDMS.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am also developer, and thought about that, but from a user's perspective, it was pretty disappointing to see crashes on a just-out-of-the-box phone, on which I have done nearly anything yet... and CloudAgent is a Google/Samsumg service running in background... This should NEVER happen, right?

Anyway, since the problem does not occur al the time, I will leave the logcat on for a while, with hope we can see the stack trace of this specific error.

Cheers,

Well errors may happen everywhere :p it might be some random thing which developer didn't expect, specially that it not happens all the time

Not even checking the logcat, there is nothing from this app, at least...

Does anyone know what is this CloudAgent? It looks like an Android core service, but there is nothing on the web about it.

For now, I will just unmark the "show notifications", as this is pretty much annoying!

Just for the record, the only "Exception" logs in logcat are:

Code:
W/Get text( 6583): Samsung OCR is not exist. android.content.pm.PackageManager$NameNotFoundException: com.sec.android.app.ocr
and
Code:
I/ElegantRequestDirector( 4869): I/O exception (org.apache.http.NoHttpResponseException) caught when processing request: The target server failed to respond

OCR is text recognition... not sure it this is from CloudAgaint (or else you are sure :p), there should be tab telling from which package log comes from try to right click LogCat tabs on top.

CloudAgent i assume it's Cloud services client and msotlikely samsung's... thru i don;t have it on my Galaxy S2

I use command-line/terminal on linux :)

Thanks for the help! Let's see if someone else using SIII/NoteII is caught up on problems with this CloudAgent.

Both my wife and I bought a Note 2 last week, and had exactly the same problem out of the box!

The Dutch Samsung Mobile Helpdesk couldn't help me by phone and referred me to local Samsung Service Centers. They hadn't even seen a Note 2 before or heard , but were sure factory resets would fix everything. Obviously, that didn't work.

I think CloudAgent is an application that checks social networks like Facebook, Instagram and cloud apps as Dropbox for pictures, but I have no foundation for that. I don't use Instagram, I turned off "Sync Gallery" in the Facebook settings, but I did turn on "Camera Upload" Dropbox, as did my wife.

I?ve got the same problem. Just bought a new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (excellent device) a couple of days ago, and while setting it up I (apparently) signed up with Dropbox cloud account with automatic sync to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (SGN2) gallery app. So now, whenever I open the gallery app it crashes almost immediately, trying to sync with my Dropbox.. So far I have no idea how to get rid of this nuisance..

Me too,
most days since I opened the box - 10 days ago.
I use dropbox too.
BTW has anybody else had an issue with either the 'internet' browser program or the 'email' programs, both running at about 50% brightness as if there's a layer of blue/grey on top of the screen. It affects whatever else is showing (the other window in multi window mode or the floating S-pad if I'm using it).
Curiously whatever it is, disappears when I press the home key, but of course then the program disappears too! Frustrating especially in bright light.
Luckily 'Chrome' and 'Firefox' not affected.

Update:
After contacting Samsung multiple times and after having been to 3 different "Samsung Service points", no one could help me and the only thing they could offer was that they would take our phones in and send them off to their technical specialists. Sadly, that is not on option for us, since we very much need our phones and can't just give them away for a minimum of three weeks.
Moreover, Samsung told me that we had been the ONLY people in The Netherlands that have come forward with this issue. They were pretty sure that Samsung was NOT planning on working on an update to fix the problem, since no one else had officially mentioned the problem.

However, I solved the problem as follows:
  1. Go to Settings - Personal - Cloud, make sure the bottom two options are turned OFF;
  2. Install QuickPic via Play Store;
  3. Go to Settings - Application Manager - All - Gallery and click "Force Stop" and then "Disable"
  4. Use QuickPic and never use or even mention Gallery again.

I am terribly disappointed in Samsung that they are making it so difficult to solve this problem. A simple messageboard like discussions.apple.com would have made a world of difference, in my opinion...

I am getting the problem with increasingly frequently. I believe the service is what handles push notifications and anything else that syncs with Samsung cloud. I find that when I get a series of these crashes when I restart my phone I immediately get a notification from a particular app so believe that app's push notification may be causing some of the issue.

Hoping that the next android update helps but if it is a Samsung issue it might not have any effect.

I've had that problem too on numerous occasions with the screen going darker..I check my settings and if I turn power save mode off or on it doesn't change things. I've already had it do the opposite too...way too bright. I'll try hitting that home button next time. I usually just reset it

I'm having the same issue with my Note 2. This is the only complaint I have with this wonderful device. I'm pretty sure is related to the Dropbox gallery sync. The message usually appears while browsing photos.

I get the same message on my Galaxy Tab 2 Note 10.1 running Android 4.1.1
It occurs only when I am browsing photos which I had downloaded from Dropbox.

Its very frustrating. Hope that there is a fix soon!

I've been experiencing this crash/error too. Given:
- Cloud is mentioned RIGHT THERE in the error itself
- that the problem stops if I disable Photo and Video Sync in /Settings/Cloud

the issue is likely to do with Dropbox or Samsung's implementation of the Dropbox API.

I submitted details about it to both Dropbox and Samsung.

In my experience, Dropbox support is reliable and I expect to hear back, even if its to point me to Samsung.

However, Samsung support have not responded to any emails I've ever sent so I'm going to call their telephone support as well.

If I hear anything useful, I'll report back.
