Default SMS app behavior

When an app is set as the default SMS app, does that prevent the text message history messages from appearing in other SMS apps installed on the phone? Sometimes I may want to send a text from another app, even if it's not the default app, and it would be frustrating if the full chat history doesn't display.

according to SMS provider api in Kitkat any apps can listen to sms delivered but only default app can send sms(ie write to the provider) (or get delivered)

so, yes, any app can have the chat history but it all depends on the app. if the app dont show u the sms history its the apps problem

I switched from the stock hangouts over to the 8sms app... much better and the sms history did transfer. You have to go under settings to set as the default sms..
