Sms to 9216 with "STATUS"

I updated Samsung Galaxy S4, to Android 4.4.2 yesterday. Since then, my phone has been sending out sms messages saying "STATUS" to 9216. It is quite annoying because it has sent over 20 messages in the last 12 hours. and I'm not sure if i'm getting charged for this or not. I don't know why it is sending that. I called my provider (Fido) to see if they know anything about it, and they didn't and suggested to call Samsung to see if they knew anything about it. Samsung didn't provide me with any useful solution.

I have already rebooted my phone several times, but it doesn't do anything. I want to avoid having to factory reset (Samsung's suggestion) my phone unless it is necessary.

Has anyone also encountered this problem and found a solution to this? Thanks!

Looks like this is not an uncommon problem w/ your carrier. Apparently people are having success by uninstalling the Visual Voicemail app.
