Updated to Lollipop - Would like to set messaging (text) to beep for every text message

On Kitkat, my phone used to beep for every text message, even if the current conversation was open. I like this feature because I'll often set my phone down but the screen is still on and I would hear the beep, knowing the person responded. Now since the update to lollipop, it's completely silent and I can't seem to find the option.

Thanks for any help.

Good question! I have read others who say that it will not beep if you are in the middle of a conversation---on the theory, I guess, that people just sit and stare at their phones in between texts.

Anyway, I guess Google --- in their infinite wisdom --- determined that this is a feature we don't need.

Yeah, this has been discussed in other threads. Which phone do you have, the Note 4? That's how it behaves on the Nexus 5. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a way to make it happen, at least not on the stock Messaging app on the Note 4. You could try a 3rd party SMS app, like Textra or Chomp SMS.

So is this a Samsung issue, rather than Google? If you have an S-View cover, then you would prefer to stick with Samsung's texting app so that it will work with the S-View.

I use hangouts for my sms app and I think it makes a noise every time I get a text, even when a chat is open.
