why do i not get a notification shade when connecting usb from comp to s5?

With the marshmallow update I should get a notification when connecting the usb cable. I can't find the usb settings for anything but tethering in settings. Where can I change the settings since the notification doesn't show up? I had no issues with moving files before the update. This is rather frustrating considering the main reason I got this phone was to read books and play games. In that order. Now I can't move new books onto the phone. Half of it's function is gone. Help please?

-Then scroll down to "build"
-Tap on "build" 10 times really fast
-go back to "settings" then "system" then "developer options"
-scroll down till u see "usb configuration"
