Did Google officially announce the release of Nougat or had all the post, articles, etc simply been a circle jerk of Internet folly?

If Google did, then it officially needs to address the delay with a new release date. If it has been the other than it would be proper if AC and other Android Mags and website's acted responsibly and help refute false reporting.

(My phone is Nexus 6 with Nougat Beta)

I would say posting of the factory images for Nexus devices should serve as a form of official release indication.

What delays are you talking about, the delay of the Nexus 6P image posting? Just as with any device manufacturer, the update is ready when it's ready. If they found an issue with the image for a particular device just before the release, I'd rather they delay a week and fix it than push out a buggy update.

They officially announced Nougat when they started OTAs of the first 7.0 release. However they obviously changed their minds without retracting their announcement because they never put out a factory image or pushed the OTA to non-beta users. The Sept release was posted as a factory image and I assume is being pushed to non-beta users. I was on the beta since DP2 and I got the August OTA in a timely manner. I only waited 24 hours on the Sept OTA and when it didn't appear I installed the factory image.

I think this was a mix of both. I don't believe it was communicated very well by Google that only Beta users were getting the update, and I believe news sites failed to report it properly as well.

I've been annoyed that it's taken so long since all of the news sites announced it was released, yet my phone hadn't received it.

Then all of a sudden the same sites said it was "officially released" 4 days ago. I received the update today.

The difference between what was a frustrating 3 to 4 weeks to arrive vs 4 days is night and day.

Better communication all around is needed for this type of thing.

I'm honestly confused as to what is happening when so I just flashed the OTA file. However, people that don't do things like this might as well be told that maybe it's here, maybe it's not. This update was really poorly communicated.

News sites are becoming utterly useless everyday. All they care about is trending topics like a new stupid original series, another Samsung Note 7 exploding and apps like stupid Pokemon Go crap. Actually going to forums here and other places instead of the news pages I find more up to date information.
