Samsung S6 texting automatically changes contact to contact's name mentioned in text

My husband has a Samsung S6 with the Nougat update. The messaging app works unless you use another contact's name in the text, then the messaging app will change & send the text to that other contact. Case in point, I got a new haircut & he took pictures of it. He wanted to send a text to his daughter to get her opinion on it (it's pretty wild!). The message to her was: "what do you think of valQIS's hair?". The message app changed from sending the message to her to sending it to me (I'm also in his contact list)!... which explains some of the weird texts people have gotten from him.
