Reminders Freeze. Why?

When I open Google Assistant and tap reminders then tap the + to add a new reminder it freezes and the small progress bar at the top stops about a 1/4 of the way.
You can't type anything so I have to exit out and restart it to make it work.

Any ideas what causes this?

I've been using Google's Reminders for a long time; I've never seen the problem you describe above.

However, I have to tell you, I recently began using this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arthurivanets.reminder - and I am loving it for lots of reasons not the least of which is that I can simply tap an icon on my home screen to add a reminder and can add a widget that displays several upcoming reminders.
