Hi,
I have an andorid phone, Honor 8 with android Noghat, i am going to sell my phone. How can i protecting my data against recovery after selling phone?
In internet i searched for this matter. People suggested to encrypt full internal memory then do factory reset. The internal memory encryption is not available in Android 7. What can i do to protect my data from recovery?

Doing a factory reset should be sufficient. Yes, encrypting the internal memory adds an extra layer of security, but once you do a factory reset it's pretty hard to recover data from a device anyway. 'Normal' apps won't do it, this requires a low-level use of data forensics tools; if someone is going to invest all that time/money trying to recover your data, well, then you can try the old method of saving data on top of yours after a factory reset. Fill the internal memory with anything (a movie, random files, etc.) and then do a factory reset again. If anyone tries to recover data, it will only be the newly-saved 'scrap' files. Again, recovering data from a wiped device is not easy and is very very costly (if successful at all, most of the time it's not).

And the reality is, unless you are someone really important or famous, the person buying your old phone really has no interest in your information.

If you were someone important or famous you wouldn't be bothering selling your old phone.


And they certainly aren't going to be going through all sorts of advanced recovery techniques to get to the data.

In addition to a factory reset, however, you should run iShredder™ 6 Military (it costs $8.99, but if you had any data on the phone that you want to make sure is gone, it's worth it [read the reviews - good customer support too]). It writes random data over the space formerly occupied by deleted files (more than once). Since storage is electronic, not magnetic, even an electron microscope can't "undelete" that - there's no ghost" there to recover.
