WiFi vs. Network connections... are they mutually exclusive?

I've had my Sprint LG G3 Vigor for ~2 weeks now, and I'm still learning (after running a Galaxy S3 for the last 2 years). With the LG, I've been using WiFi calling at the house. When I leave home (and leave the WiFi calling enabled), my phone doesn't connect via 3G or 4G to the network. If I turn OFF the WiFi calling at home (and don't enable the mobile network), I also do not have data. Is this normal? On my Samsung, it would switch between WiFi and network data automatically. Once WiFi was out of range, it connected via the tower. With this LG, will I always have to manually switch between WiFi and mobile network connections?

Thanks in advance.

That's weird. It should be handled automatically. I've used an LG Flex and a G4 and they both handled WiFi/mobile data handover automatically. I'm a bit confused though, does it work when you have WiFi calling off? Or with WiFi Calling on or off your WiFi and mobile data just never switch automatically?
