So excited to hear this, I can't wait for my Lollipop now! Now I can download from my ftp to my SD card, save my email attachements from Aquamail to SD card. It had crippled the ability of Solid Explorer from moving files to my SD card, Crippled Aquamail, and many other apps I cant think of right now.

You can currently do this by rooting your phone and fixing it yourself.

Confirmed; I always root my phones, but I usually wait and enjoy the phone stock for awhile. I find there is less incentive for me to root nowadays though. This particular issue was going to be one reason I would eventually root though, but now I might wait a bit longer.

They locked down the SD cards as a temp measure while they worked on the new system. In JB, the SD card was an open, insecure book.
