LG G3 poor battery life and excessive data usage

Is there any fix to battery life and whatever causes apps to launch themselves after being shut down and be using data in the background. I got a warning from the phone using 2 gig in just over a week and this comes from a family of 4 that normally uses a little over a gig a month. I hate to be stuck with this thing for 2 years since i have had it about 2 months on the att next plan. Comeing from an iphone and I wanted to try android but man this is the pits

Did you go into settings and see what apps are using up your battery and data?

If a process in the app is needed, Android will rerun the app if you shut it down. Android isn't iOS.

and be using data in the background.
Turn off background data. Keep mobile data off when you don't need it.

There was a recent thread going around about data charges and VZ, there's some sort of bug and VZ knows about it now, won't charge you for the data.

Maybe one of the vets here can link the thread.

Also check your facebook settings and make sure "video auto-play" is set to off. it is normally on by default.

Also watch the Photos App. It will lull you to backup your photos into Google Cloud. However, it defaults to backing up over cellular and Wi-Fi; it should default to Wi-Fi only. This may be using up your data as well.
