Why does my phone black out when on a call on my LG G3?

i have a LG G3.

every time i get a call and answer it my phone blacks out and won't turn on until the call is over, or if calling and are sent too voicemail. ill have to restart it since i cant hang up. any suggestions?

Phone should switch off screen to preserve battery immediately after putting it close to face, and should switch it back on after moving it away.
If switching on is not working, it could be caused by sensor malfunction (not likely) and software error.
If your phone is under warranty, you should ask to be repaired.. If not, I would reflash ROM or try alternative one, like Cloudy G3

Make sure nothing is blocking the proximity sensor (upper left of the phone). If you have a screen protector, try removing it to see if it resolves the issue
