    Neither device finds the other even though both devices are searching. My old Nexus worked fine.

    One device has to be set to be discoverable - the car in this case. Read the owner's manual. (Bluetooth pairing is a one-way street - one is discoverable, the other searches. If they're both searching, neither one will be finding anything. It's like everyone listening - since no one is talking, no one hears anything.)
