Built-in Mail app issues

Hello!

I can't check my mail on my device because the app keeps showing me "Incorrect login information. Please try again" despite the fact that I created an app password (I have 2 steps verification enabled on my Gmail).
Anyone else is experiencing this?
How do I solve this issue?

I could use the Gmail app but I don't want to because of intrusive ads.

Gave up on the stock email client....now use Cloudmagic and have no problems at all

I had the stock app eat all its settings and wipe its data file. I did a reset and a few weeks later it imploded again. There is something janky about it.
