Cannot update to 6.0

I just bought two g3s for my kids.
One device says all apps install date of 1970...yeah I know about that one lol.
However, can't get battery info to calculate consistently in settings unless I use third party app.

Full charge from 33% took 4 hours.
Different battery same thing. Other device saw the battery info right away and is on 6.0.

Big thing is the device is stuck on lollipop and no update available.
Even used Verizon desktop app and got it to 5.1.1 but still no update available to 6.0.

Thoughts?

After way too much time trying to do the same including hours with clueless Verizon and LG support people I found this yesterday. Followed the instructions (choose "file" before you choose ".bin" when you get that far) and the upgrade almost took. That is, got locked up on an error msg and had to reinsert the battery in order to reboot. Many times. Finally solved it by doing an stock OS update by pressing power and volume down together and then the new OS took and boots normally now.

I put a Verizon sim in that was never activated and it worked.
