Not able to get Gmail emails auto downloaded

My son has a LG G3 I have only 1 email account setup and it is his primary Gmail .
I just finished doing a factory reset twice and no matter what I have tried I can't get Gmail App to download emails automatically. Only way is to open Gmail app and pull down to refresh and then any email waiting shows.

Any ideas?

Make sure you don't have any data saving or power saving mode enabled.
Obviously you have Turned ON the auto synch in the Gmail app itself....

Yes I have auto sync turned on.
