FM Radio?

Why would they disable it?

Because the telecoms cannot make any money off it since they cannot charge you fees.

I assume it is because you can use your phone to access entertainment without spending money on band width. I used to have an unlocked European model here in Canada (Edit: G3). It had wireless charging and FM Radio. Even came with a set of decent sounding headphones that doubled as the antenna.

I upgraded to a carrier (Bell) G4. Sure as $!#$& FM Radio was gone.

Part of me thinks LG should try to stand firm on some of this stuff.

Yes. "Either we supply you with phones as we've designed them, or not at all" to the carriers.

As much as I agree only Apple and Samsung carry enough weight to pull this off currently.

What we need is more phones with all the network bands like Nexus line, the new Apple phones, Moto X Pure, etc. Being able to buy directly from the manufacturer will allow more features to exist.

Dear LG G4 friends PLEASE READ THIS...IT MIGHT BE HELPFUL.
When i first bought my G4 I disabled some stuff and by mistake the FM radio too. I couldnt find it anywhere and I panic since I use it every day while doing my jogging. Fortynately after hours of searching i finally got it back.
So...please follow the steps below and you might get it back too...I am not sure but u never know...give it a shot.
Settings - General - About Phone - Update Center - App updates.
If you are lucky enough it might be there and you just download it again.
As far as I know they can only disable it not delete it completely.

I really hope I have helped so please post a feedback how did it go.

By the way I have the G4 H815 european unlocked version

Pretty sure kko had it because of being unlocked. I checked anyways in case of a miracle but no dice.

Stupid question. Has LG actually removed the fm radio hardware or just not installed the software needed to make it work?

I doubt the hardware has been altered. It is probably a software removal or block

RocketFoot has the solution! Thanks for that.

All you have to do is install Next Radio and plug in headphones. You can output to your speaker, but you need the headphones because, the cable is used as the antenna.

Very cool.

edit: Apparently, NextRadio is only available on Sprint for the G4 at present.

Yes, I have Sprint as well and it works fine. It does require headphones to work but you can output to the phone's speaker. The headphone wire acts as the antenna.
