how to disable proximity sensor?

It happened. I was longboarding to my sister to buy her something to eat and my phone fell out of my pocket. It shattered. The crack starts right on top of the proximity sensor so now I can't use my phone unless I aim it in direct light first because it thinks it's in my pocket. I tried recalibrating it but that didn't help. Is there any way to completely disable the proximity sensor from the service menu? Please help. I can't use my phone unless I aim it in sunlight first. And I'm running on marshmallow ls991zvc so rooting isn't an option, and neither is flashing to lollipop (antirollback) thanks

And...now I see that in your original post...sorry.

If you're a bit handy and the digitizer is ok, you could try replacing the glass (~$14). plenty of youtube vids with directions!

If the digitizer is funky, for about $35 more. I've found replacing the digitizer is easier than just the glass, at least on a Samsung S3:
