How do I change my "wake screen" settings to only use the power button to wake

First of all, I am confused due to the fact that I have my screen locked by password, so I cannot figure out how my phone screen not only wakes up while in my pocket, but also bypasses the pin screen to open apps, answer calls, etc.

I just want to change my settings in order to disable the tap to wake settings? Does anyone know why this isn't easy to find? Any suggestions?

For the "bypass" problem, check your lock screen settings to see if the timeout value is too long:
settings > display > lock screen > lock timer
I have mine set to the shortest time that is not "instant" so that the lock screen enables just after the screen goes to sleep.

Smart lock will also do this if you have it set to unlock while on your person.
