    Hello all,

Kindly requesting your assistance on the below.

I have an LG G4 which is requesting for back up pin. I don't seem to remember inputting one and I'm looking for a way to gain access to the phone. I've used the below methods with no success:
    1. Manual Method
I've tried all the number combinations that I have in my head with no success. (Can anyone confirm the number of characters the backup pin has? All my combinations are four digit codes)

    2. Find My Device
I've tried to use "Find My Device" to unlock it but I only get the following functions
    • I can locate the phone on the maps
    • I can make the phone ring
    • I can lock the phone and put any phrase I want on it (Why is there no option available for unlocking?)
    • I see the option to erase the device but I don't want try that because I will lose the data on the phone.

    3. I've also tried to use dr.phone which although it matches my phone model successfully it gives me an error that "Install model failed"

Is there any other way possible to regain access to the phone. Appreciate your assistance.

    I've attached screenshots.

There is no way to bypass this, it's a security feature. If you set up a fingerprint to unlock, it would've required you to set a backup PIN/password. They don't just set themselves. Whenever you reboot the phone, using the fingerprint isn't even an option and you are required to enter the backup PIN/password.

At this point, about your only option would be a factory reset. If you keep trying different PIN numbers, it'll just reset anyway (another security feature). When you reset it, you'll then need to enter the Google account login info during the setup process to prove ownership of the phone (yet another security feature).

As to why Find My Device won't let you remotely unlock a phone is because that is another security feature. That app is designed to help find your device if lost, and to protect your data from being stolen if the phone falls into the wrong hands. If it's your phone, it's assumed you know how to log in at the lock screen, thus such an option is pointless with Find My Device.

All these security features are just that, to protect the phone from being stolen and reused. We don't allow discussions of bypassing them for that reason.

    Thanks Mooncatt for your reply.

Just a quick clarification..given the phone powers on and only issue is login in to my profile, is there any way I can recover the photos in the device before I proceed with factory reset. I have many priceless photos that I don't want to lose.

    Thanks again.

Unfortunately, there's no way to get to photos saved to Internal Storage unless you can unlock the phone. Could the photos have been saved to an SD card instead?

You could check with a forensic data recovery service, but these are really expensive ($1000 or more), and I'm not sure if they agree to crack a locked phone either.

You probably already know this now, but it's worth emphasizing -- never keep extremely valuable data (like your photos) only on your phone, since you can't predict if or when the phone will malfunction, get stolen, or be crushed under a bulldozer. Make sure data like that is backed up somewhere on a regular basis. For photos, it's a simple matter of backing up to Google Photos.

As B. Diddy mentioned, your options are limited on recovery.

Thanks B. Diddy & Mooncatt once again.

Currently using Google Photos on my current phone...wasn't using it on the LG (cost of data in Kenya is quite high). I guess I'll have to proceed with device reset.
