    Hi guys,

My new ( 2-3 months) LG G5 is starting to show some problems. It's randomly showing this message " tap to change usb connection " when it is not connected to the wall charger. In addition, there's a vibration / sound when this message pops up.. it's really annoying. I have updated to Android 7 recently but I have no idea if the two things are related.

    Anyone having the same problem?

    ps
I've posted this in another section but this is the right section I guess

That usually means that there's something making a 'false contact' in the charging port. You can try cleaning it with a soft brush or compressed air, but if the problem persists, maybe the port is loose or the connection inside the phone is bad.

    thanks for the suggestion.

Yep, I've already tried with compressed air. So, you don't think it's something related to Nougat, right?

It could be, but I really doubt it. The times I've seen this have happened because of hardware. You can, of course, always try booting up in Safe Mode and see if that helps (if it does, then it's a 3rd party app causing issues).

I am having the same problem with the notification popping up stating USB power supply. Then it gives me several options to select how I charge my phone. I have been able to tap a few different options and choose always, but it does not correct this malfunction from reoccurring. It will do it 5-8 times in a 3-4 minute period then stop popping up for about 5 minutes and then starts popping up again. I have tried everything. I talked to Verizon customer representative and they had me do a factory reset. This issue is still occurring. Is there anyone who can advise me of what I can do to correct this issue I am having with my LG G5 phone. This just started last night when I unplugged my phone from my charger which is plugged into the wall outlet. I do have a new computer but I have not used it yet. I have not changed the way I charge my phone since I have had it in Aug. 2017. I have downloaded some new apps, changed some privacy settings and uninstalled some apps. I wonder if this is a reason I am receiving these annoying notifications? Any advice or feedback will be greatly appreciated! Thank you for comments!

I have found out from LG customer service representative that as a last option to remove the SIM card. If that does not resolve this issue to go to their website which is......LGMOBILEREPAIR.com and fill out their form and you will receive a prepaid shipping label to send the phone to the facility. They like most cellphone manufacturers offer a 1 year warranty on their cellphones. The year begins the date of your purchase. I have had to send a phone back to the manufacturer about 6 years ago and they could not correct the issue, so I ended up receiving a brand new phone! I wanted to add I have not tried removing the SIM card yet and my phone has not shown that irritating notification regarding the USB power supply in about 3 hours. I don't know if this issue has fixed itself or not? I just wanted to inform anyone else having this issue that you can get this issue fixed by LG as long as you did not cause any physical damage and have had your new phone less than 1 year. I do not purchase any type of warranties because I know from the past issue I had that most if not all cellphone manufacturers offer a free 1 year warranty from the date you purchased your new phone! I hope this will help anyone else who may be having this same issue. Good Luck!

I have the same issue as stated above. Did a lot of research, without any solid answers. Some advised taking SIM/memory card out and restarting phones, others suggested it was OS issue. For me the USB Power notification originally started appearing whenever I plugged in (or) unplugged my phone from the LG-issued fast-charger then the fast charger stopped charging the phone altogether - I swapped to a standard USB charger and the issue went away. So originally I thought the problem was with the fast charging capability (or) cable. But the notification issue came back and now incessantly goes on and off - and more annoying is turning the Android System app notification off doesn't seem to have an effect. However, I am quite sure like SpookDroid suggested and others have indicated in other forums the issue is with the charging port, part of the charging module. But I believe it to be a big flaw in the LG G5 module because I have kept my phone in pristine condition, so if the charging port is so so sensitive to motes of dust, there is a fault in the port design.

    Try this:

Turn off Fingerprints for locking your screen.

I know this sounds ridiculous, but hear me out or try it. I noticed that other users had noted that their system had upgraded before getting this random notification. I had tried cleaning out my USB port with air and a toothpick. And I tried different USB cables. But after a recent OS update (7.0, Android Security Patch Level March 1, 2017, Build NRD9OU, SW Version H83020f, Security software version MDF v2.09 Release 2.0) my battery life dropped dramatically and I got this error all the time, especially if nothing was plugged into the USB port. I looked to see what was using the most battery and strangely it was the Android OS, by a big margin. Android OS was not only first, but 47%! I thought back to what I had done before the upgrade. I had set a fingerprint lock for the first time. As a test, I turned off the fingerprint unlocking. Now I no longer get the phone asking to change the USB connection AND Android OS is 3rd and a much more reasonable 9%. Battery life is improved and the phone is fast like it was when I bought it!

Go figure? I don't know what the connection is other than some bug in the OS with the Fingerprint lock. I tried the other suggestions in this thread and another one in this forum (except for restoring to factory settings). Nothing worked. Not even removing the SIM card.

Maybe some programmer will look at this exclaim "Oh Crap, I forgot..."

Here's how to change the lock:

Settings >Lock screen > Select screen lock
-Enter your lock code (or fingerprint) as prompted
-Change to any of the other options (I selected "Pattern")

Feedback appreciated. (And, no, I am not turning the fingerprint lock back on until there is an OS update.)
