LG G5 power button issue

About 6 weeks ago the biometric scanner on my G5 started working intermittently, then after a week or so of this, it stopped working altogether and then it disappeared from security settings too!
Then next the power button stopped working in the OS, it works fine for turning the phone on, but once on the power button is completely unresponsive!
I'm trying to get LG to replace it but they are dragging their heels, I read something about a dud battery causing the issue possibly?
If anyone can offer some advice that would be awesome, I have already reset the phone back to factory settings and that didn't help.

If it still happens in Safe Mode (https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-30620), then it's either a firmware or hardware defect. If the phone is under warranty, they really ought to take care of it -- request an RMA.

I can't get into safe mode as the power button doesn't respond when in the os.

I think your best course of action is to keep talking to LG and insist on warranty repair.
