My LG G5 battery has begun draining rapidly over the last few days. When I took it into the Verizon store, I was told this battery drain usually happens after a phone update and you need to back up your phone to google mail and then do a factory reset. The phone settings/short cuts/contacts can all be restored with this google mail. "Factory reset" scares the hell out of me since I fear losing all my info. Is this something I should do after an update & what's the correct way to do a complete factory reset?

Welcome to Android Central! Although it's true that a factory reset can sometimes "clear out the cobwebs," so to speak, and make a phone run a little better, backing things up isn't that simple. Google-related data like your contacts, calendar events, etc. will backup/sync to your Google account in the cloud (assuming you've entered that data using your Google account, and not the local "Phone account"), and certain 3rd party apps will back up data to your Google account as well (in Google Drive) -- but not all apps will do this. Preinstalled LG apps (like QuickMemo) most likely will not back up to your Google account, so that's an area where people would be more likely to lose important data.

Before you consider a factory reset, let's see if we can narrow down the cause. Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

    1. The main Settings>Battery screen.2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
    3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
    4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

You might have to install a 3rd party battery monitor, like GSam Battery Monitor, to get the Cell Signal Strength graph.
