Taking pictures and videos of the Eclipse

So I'm in Michigan and will have an 80% eclipse today. I'm going to attempt to photograph and take a video of the eclipse today using my LG G6. I'm not expecting anything great. My expectations are low. I'm going to use a pair of eclipse glasses over the lens as well as on my face. I'm also going to record in 4k. We'll see. I know there'll be plenty of people with way better equipment recording it, so I'm not too concerned with the quality. I just want it mainly for my own documentation.

I'm quite sure that Smarter Every Day will be taking tons of high quality footage of it.

Is anyone else in the U.S. planning on taking any pictures or videos of it?

you may want to google how to make a filter for it. Some of my photography friends were all posting about how they are either making one or buying one. Im guessing that the eclipse could screw up the camera sensor? just a guess, im not really sure though.

Minnesota and I couldn't even see the Eclipse with a camera. Very cloudy day, got a little darker during the event but sun still looked like a ball. I did not have a filter, or glasses so I avoided looking at it. Photos on my S7 look like regular sun on a cloudy day photos lol.

Well, the eclipse glasses worked like a charm. I did record a little bit in uhd, but I had to contend with the clouds. I don't recall what the settings were on the camera. I did use manual focus with focus peaking, which helped by showing a small green ring around it when it was in focus. I also couldn't zoom in all the way. So I had to reach a happy medium or compromise between having a big blurry eclipse or having it so small that you can't see anything.

The first one is without the glasses when it was partially behind the clouds.

It 'peaked' at only about 60% in my neck of the woods... and some a layer of clouds rolled on through that were thick enough to block most of the light but thin enough so you could see things clearly without any need for special glasses/filters

Took this with the modified Google Camera

While this was with my S8+ I was able to snag a cool picture. I went to Santee, South Carolina to see it fully.

Photographed through solar viewing glasses. I used "manual" mode since the auto exposure blew it out. Since this is not real manual exposure, I had to lock the ISO at 50, manual focus to infinity, then point my phone at different areas around me until the desired shutter speed was shown, then hit the exposure lock button. Tried various different speeds - this one I believe was 1/125 sec.

Wish I had had a larger filter that I could put on my real camera with 400mm lens :)

Like boddob, I had to play around with the manual settings while holding my eclipse glasses over the lens. This would have been the perfect time to have a third hand.
