I'm looking at the Pixel 2 and V30 forums and everyone's complaining about the blue shift screen.. I myself have seen a reddish tone screen (compared next to other phones). The S8, people are starting to see screen burn in from normal use.. do you think this is why LG went back to LCD? What do you think? Do you care about OLED or LCD? I'm glad they went back to LCD.. no more burn in. The V35 unfortunately still uses the OLED screen so I won't be getting that.

I was really impressed by the screen. Even more impressed when I was able to clearly see the screen in direct Arizona sunlight. I've never seen another phone even come close to that. I have an OLED TV that I love but the G7s LCD screen speaks for itself and I'm happy with it. Best screen I've used, by far.

Very much Yes. Apple, Sony, and LG all know how to make high-quality IPS LCD screens.
I've never had an issue with my S5's screen but I've seen real bad burn-in issues on other Samsungs and tinted newer LGs like the V30.

I've seen a couple people say that and I think it's build variances because mine (T-mo, red) has zero bleed. I know just about every time I've been on these forums when a phone is released, some people have screen bleed.

Same here, screen is good but spoilt by light bleed at the bottom (quality control) and with auto brightness screen is too dim.

Since the phones covered by a two year warranty maybe I'll swap it out after the first year if they've fixed the issue by then.

No. I'm hoping the V40 (if it even launches) will continue with OLED.

I really like my V30 screen.

I technically don't have a dog in this race because I have a Pixel 2XL which uses LG's OLED. If someone were to ask the same question of me I would prefer Pixels continue with an LG OLED.

You're confusing the Pixel 2 with the 2XL.
LG makes the screen for the 2XL. As for the blue shift not everyone is complaining and not everyone has it or too the same degree. All phones have some color or light shift when viewed at an angle. OLED have a slight shift in color.... sometimes blue, green, or red. LCDs have more of a light shift. As for burn in....there are plenty of people who don't experience it with OLED. My V20 experienced screen retention that wouldn't go away so in the end it was very similar to burn in. I had it fixed under warranty.

I don't think LG went back to LCD. The G series has always been LCD. The V series was LCD until the V30. So I think going forward they will keep it this way to distinguish between the two. I'm very happy with the screen on the LG 7 although I wish it was a little bigger.

No; I would have much rather seen what advancements LG's done in the past 10 months on LED displays than to see them continue to waste time and money on LCD displays for mobile.

The V35 used the same parts from the V30, the materials for the screens were already available, cutting costs. They might switch back on the next redesigned V40 like on the G7. Also, the complaints about the AMOLED issues like blue shift and reddish tone.

On the G7 they have a new ultra bright mode. I don't think it was possible for them to have ultra bright on an AMOLED, that would cause severe screen burn-in very fast. Hence another major reason why (plus that notch will burn-in icons & text). Plus, ultra bright mode on an AMOLED screen would kill the battery.. OLED uses more power when displaying individual white pixels (this has been proven true). They probably don't even have the technology to make ultra bright AMOLED screens anyway. So the V40 may return to IPS LCD.

Google has always been fond of OLED screens, so I don't think you should be worried with Google. Also, the front facing speakers too.

Compare a white background on AMOLED vs LCD and you'll see how pink it looks. I'd rather have whiter whites than full blacks.

As far as I know, you need OLED to have VR (daydream) support. One reason why Google sticks with OLED. For LG, makes sense to have one of their flagships at least have VR support. I know VR is not a big deal but still makes sense to few of your devices support VR.

I think the whole VR market is slowly changing.. the Oculus Go is only $199.99 and you don't need anything else. Makes better sense to have a separate VR unit.. much better experience and content. Sorry but Google's VR is weak.. Google only provides a small amount of contribution such as basic VR apps and the Google Cardboard. The Oculus Go has already been well established, porting over content from the Samsung Gear VR (partnered with Oculus). LG attempted VR poorly with the G5 and "friends" VR unit but it was junk.. they should just focus on making phones not VR and I think LG understands that. The Google VR and cardboard days are done, lacks content plus Google's refusal to put a micro SD card slot on their phone limits the amount of content one could load on to it.

The colors and deep blacks of my Galaxy S7 is nice. The variable screen brightness is nice too, especially when it is sitting on the dash of my car. The problem is burn in. There are certain elements from the map software that are ghosted on every display on the phone now. I'm seriously considering going with LG G7 for the LCD when I have to upgrade.

That would freak me out. My OLED TV has been fine but after seeing things about OLED phones, one of the reasons I went with the G7 over the V35 is that I did not want to have to worry about burn-in or retention. I like to be able to let my phone screen stay on for a long time and don't want to worry about it degrading over the couple years I'll be using it.

After playing with this device for a couple more days I have changed my mind. I prefer this display. For some reason ots easier on my eyes and I also dont see any ghosting when scrolling from a light and dark image. Outside of display, this also seems really smooth, even compared to my note 8. So far, glad I got this phone.
