LG Optimus Elite Virgin Mobile Need Help!

This is my wife's phone. The SD card is not being recognized. Tried three different known-good cards, press the mount sd card (under Storage), phone waits a long time and doesn't mount. Tried reboot and battery pull numerous times. Once in a blue moon it will work. Without the SD card working, camera doesn't work either. Ideas? I tried everything I can think of short of a factory reset. We have two friends with the same phone, all bought at the same time, and theirs work fine.
ALSO, when she streams an iTunes radio station and also charging, the phone gets so terribly hot she gets a warning on the screen and the phone shuts down. When it cools off, it needs to be charged. Ideas?

Are you sure the SD card is going in all the way? Does it have to click into place? You could check your friend's phones to see how deep they're supposed to sit.

How is your wife streaming iTunes on an Android phone?
