Try out ZVJ Rom on ZVD Baseband?

I know that by flashing a ZVJ Rom while having the ZVD radio, I would lose any ability to call, text, or use data. This I know to be true. But, I wanted to try out a ZVJ rom before taking the time to flash the ZVJ radio onto the Optimus to see if I'd like it first. Would there be any other "bad" things that could happen (i.e. brick) by flashing roms on incompatible basebands? What about flashing kernels on incompatible basebands, too?
