flash lg optimus s to metro pcs

I recently purchased a lg optimus s brand new, and want to use it on the metro pcs network. they told me they could flash the phone so that it would work on the metro pcs network, but that I would not be able to use the internet. If I root the phone and get superuser rights does this mean I can use the internet with the 3g? I am a newbe to the smartphone and thought when I bought the phone that it would not be an issue because the metro pcs people said they could flash it. I also noticed that houdinisoft said that they could flash it as well, why now that I have the phone in hand they say that it will not work for the internet?

I'd flashed a droid X to cricket but every carrier and phone tends to have it's own little quirks. So, if it's possible to flash it you are going to have go to a Metro PCS flashing forum like howard forums.
