in the end i would like to have the phone rooted again
Which version of the OS/Radio would you like while rooted?

If you are happy with V9, you can stop right now and just use z4 to root your phone.

If you want a rooted phone with VC, then you need to restore the V9 Recovery partition also (which you can do from the "How to unroot thread"). Afterwards, you would get the VC update using the LG Software Updater tool.

See, this is the same problem I am having. I did run the check sum, and it passes. The phone update opens then gives the error: Updating is not possible any longer due to a fatal error while the LG Mobile Phone Software Update. The long listed output that scooled101 posted is exactly what I get.
I have tried all 3 different model# and Version#'s in kp500 that have been suggested and still get that error message.

When the process did work for you scooled101, did you see that error message in the updater and just let it sit, or did you see something else entirely? Something that let you know it was working?

His problem was determined to be an issue with the renaming of the cab file.

His file was named LS670ZV9.cab.cab instead of LS670ZV9.cab

In some configurations of the windows explorer folder view, it hides file extensions so even though it looks like there is a single .cab extension, there are actually two, with one being hidden.

I modified the instructions to avoid this problem.

If you want to see if you have the same issue, open a command prompt and type:
c:
cd \KP500-Utils-EN-v0.4.2
dir *.cab

You should see a file with single .cab extension
02/11/2011 02:10 PM 99,220,700 LS670ZV9.cab

If you see a double .cab extension
02/11/2011 02:10 PM 99,220,700 LS670ZV9.cab.cab

then in your command prompt type

ren LS670ZV9.cab.cab LS670ZV9.cab
dir *.cab

That was it. The rename fixed it and every thing progressed as it looked like it should. Checked the phone once complete and I'm back to V9. Thank you sir, I appreciate the help.

keep getting error saying pc sync software not found. any help
That's not an error. It is an informative message. The firmware update tool is making sure there are no PC Sync softwares installed which might interfere with the firmware writing process.

Hey guys I am trying to root my LG Optimus S with software version LS670ZVC and first I need to update to VC using an alternative method so I follow the link on the first page to do this, which then sends me to the "unroot link" post to unroot my phone and return to stock. But this post says that I need to have the phone rooted already so it is like I am going in a loop. Any help will be appreciated. The links I am talking about are below:

The first link you provided is for reverting to V9 if you mistakenly installed the OTA VC update instead of installing the VC update using the LG Software Updater tool.

Which version do you currently have? If you have stock V9, you can just use the LG Software Updater tool to install the VC update, then follow the root instructions on the first post of this thread.

If you currently have VC, it depends how you installed VC. If you did it with the LG Software Updater tool, then follow the directions in the first post to root.

If you currently have VC, but installed it with the OTA VC update, then follow the directions in my signature to revert to V9 first, then follow the "Unroot" thread to get the remaining pieces.

Help.
My wife updated to VC and lost the root.
Trying to follow directions in post 239.
Step 2 takes you back to V9, which is rootable with Z4Root.
What is the need for step 3, which takes you back to V8? after reverting back to v9, there is no root until I run z4root. Why would i need to follow direction to "how to unroot"???

Makes perfect sense now!!!Thanks a lot!!! I was able to complete all of the steps. I am now ready to root the VC version updated through LG update tool.
My next question is what exactly did you mean by "If you previously reverted to the stock ROM and DIDN'T restore the stock recovery (meaning you still have custom recovery), this will brick your phone!"? Once I follow all of the instructions on the different post I will automatically restore the stock recovery or do I have to take extra steps to do this? I don't seem to know where exactly the command line for restoring the stock recovery is on the instructions? I am pretty new to this so I am a little lost but I am catching up quickly. Thanks for all the help!!!

Just wanted to lest noods and people that are nevus about this that I........

Took a new (12-12~6~8-2010) that came with V9 on it. was rooted with z4root followed the OP never uninstlled root and its worked:cool:

Only thing i saw was after i installed super user form market. (hears what i did in order 1) opened droidwall and turn it on to see if super user was working It was them opened compass, compuss was lagging so it powered off)

And it got stuck at the LG screen i pulled the bat and it came right back up the next time (i mean the phone booted up just fine). As i was typing this i powered down and its at the LG screen again:confused: Arrrr

Ya i think its bricked..... just grate its my GFs phone:mad::-!

I just don't understand why it booted up 2 time with out a problem? WTF:mad: My Epic is so ez the sgs's are unbrickable

HELP! not that i think there is any help at this point (LG SCREEN)

OK guys get this,:D So after all that^^^^ We go to BB later that afternoon and the cell lady asks whats wrong with the phone. My girl hands it to her and says "try powering it up it locks up and does not boot" she (BB lady) takes the battery out pops it back in hits the power key & the phone boots right up (we are like ok WTF) :-!:-!:-[

I had the battery out for over 5 minuets at lest 5 times & powered it up many times (20+) only to have it lock at the LG screen.

Today the phone was rebooted and it booted back up just fine. We where keeping the phone ON and not powering it off/rebooting before today.

Any one have an ideas about this? on Saturday i ran alogcat on the phone with in ten minuets of it booting up and working but i'm not sure what to look for in the log.

This is the thread about reverting using a nandroid dump.

If you don't follow steps 25-29, you WILL end up with a brick.

If you just want V9 and root, you can stop after reverting to V9 and just use z4root.

However, if you want to have VC and root, then you need to follow the rest of the directions. The part you care most about is restoring the V9 Recovery partition (steps 26-30 in the "Unroot" thread). If you know what you are doing, then just restore the partition. If you need step-by-step directions, then follow all the instructions in the "Unroot" thread.

If you followed all the steps in the Unroot thread (in particular steps 26-30), then you will have restored the stock V9 Recovery partition. You can then ignore the warning above about bricking your phone.

The steps you did to restore the stock V9 Recovery looked like this:
26) adb shell
27) mount /sdcard (if this throws an error about "device or resource busy", just ignore it)
28) cd /sdcard/nandroid/mem=477M/BCDMRS12-20101122-1915
29) flash_image recovery recovery.img
30) reboot
