I was trolling xda to help a friend root his evo without a pc or find drivers that work for him and stumbled on this. Someone posted it worked on an o1 froyo. Don't have a personal need to root since I did when I was on v9 but maybe it could help someone

I'm not the op or creator of this apk just sharing an interesting read. All credits go to the o and the originators of the script linked in the first post.

That's cool, not around an Optimus to try it. If someone does, pay attention to the RED warning that some users report formatting of SD card, so be sure to back your stuff up, including your SD card.

This would simplify a lot of instructions if it worked on the Optimus S.

well using adb to root VD with gingerbreak works, so I wouldn't be surprised if this apk works too.
haven't tested it though as my phone is already well rooted :p

I wouldn't use the APK, gingerbreak is easy enough. Not to mention the fact that Sebastian specifically says that gingerbreak is NOT designed for use in APKs.

My opinion: APK root method = malware. Manual root method = winning.

The gingerbreak code was modified for use in the APK, so I won't recommend it.
