How to switch the settings so my download apps will do directly to my sd card

I want it to where when I download apps and music they go directly to my sd card

Welcome to Android Central! There is no setting to allow apps to be installed directly to the SD card--they have to install to Internal Storage first. Afterwards, if your phone supports it, you can move a portion of the app to the SD.

For file downloads, some phones give you the option to select a default storage area, but it's not very common.
